This is a three part series about the mourning for the loss of the American exceptionalism.
In the name of identity politics we are announcing a new hyphenated-American name in American culture for the most hated and discriminated group in American culture: The Traditional-Americans. Full Story
Many of them have come to be known known as members of the “Tea Party.” If you don't believe have they have become reviled, just tune into MSNBC on any random evening for prime time viewing and listen to the hate spewed forth upon them.
For decades Traditional-Americans have suffered the erosion of their values to the point they are now reviled as some sort of public menace. The Tea Party movement, comprised largely of Traditional-Americans, has been mischaracterized as a group of narrow-minded white racists who want to "take their country back" to the days of Jim Crow.
Traditional-Americans believe one earns one's way through life. They believe in the value of a hard day's work, believe in a solid education that makes one competitive in the market place of skills. They are a kind generous people who give regularly to charities, and they do not distain lending a helping hand toward the disadvantaged, but lose respect for people who insist on receiving a monthly handout as a way of life.
These are frugal people, who choose to live within their means, but neither are they cheapskates. They believe in balancing their checkbook, pay-as-you-go, and they pay their debts on time. Likewise, they believe their government should balance its finances the same way they balance their own checkbooks.
Unfortunately, life is not fair. Despite the inherent unfairness of our world, Traditional-Americans apply “Fairness” in the sports arena. In such a controlled environment, fairness can, and ought to be enforced. They believe competition is healthy and should be encouraged, and that losing gracefully builds character. But they do not believe in "fairness" at the finish line. They believe in equality of opportunity, not equality of outcomes.
Traditional-Americans are not defined by popular definitions of today’s politics--not by race, ethnicity, or national origin. They are defined by what they believe. They are American citizens who believe in the traditional American values establish by our founding Fathers.
We are the Traditional-Americans. And we are waking up, and we are starting to reclaim what has been taken from us.
